The lesson of "san kofa" is that each of us is the product of our past and the past must be cared for if we are to "fly" toward the future. So we look after past things. We pay our debts, we finish things left incomplete, we forgive and ask for forgiveness, we maintain and reaffirm our relationships. We put our past in order so we can approach the future with clear minds and clean hearts.
